You may have read the words online sales funnel in many places in your quest to learn more about growing your business and profits. It’s an essential part of your process to make sales and will ideally be structured to deliver optimal results.
In today’s post, we are going to explore what your online sales funnel should look like and how to put it into place. If you don’t have one, then today is the day that you may want to think about what you need to do to get one in operation.
What is an online sales funnel?
Your funnel is the path that you want your web visitors to follow from they time they first come across you to becoming a repeat buyer. For most people, their funnel looks like this:
- Somebody arrives on our blog or our website.
- We encourage them to sign up for a free report and we capture their email address.
- Emails are sent out to the person, including low priced introductory product offers.
- They make a purchase and are now a customer.
- They are presented with a one time offer or an upsell product item.
- We continue to make offers that are relevant whilst we build our relationship through the website, email marketing and social media.
- Eventually, the customer will buy items that are priced higher or may sign up for a recurring program.
Develop your online sales funnel
Take a few minutes to list your current product sales funnel. Do you have all the pieces in place to usher the customer through the process? Do you have a free offer on your site to capture the email addresses of your visitors?
Now check whether you have an introductory offer in place. This might be a short introductory course, a coaching session or even a small eBook. The typical price would normally be in the £5 to £89 price range.
Also check whether you have a one time offer or an upsell being offered immediately after the first purchase is made. If you don’t then this is the first thing to work on. Your customer is already in the buying mood, has bought something from you and is interested in what you have to offer. The likelihood of them adding something to their cart is high right now. Ensure the offer is relevant and priced slightly higher than what they just bought.
More pieces to add
Think about what your customer may need next. Is there another piece that they should be learning or getting access to? Or you may be offering another product. Your online sales funnel needs to include this offer.
Remember to remind your buyers what you have to offer. This may mean that you need to send a few follow up emails or perhaps bundle some existing products to create a larger one.
Finally consider larger ticket items. This may include bigger bundles, large courses or coaching programs. Although only a small percentage of your customers will opt for these, the profit per sale is worth letting them know about them.
