We’re on day 3 of 7: How to Find Time For Your Ideal Morning Routine. This is part of a 7-day mini challenge to makeover mornings for productivity.
It’s no secret that mornings are busy and they can be hectic. If you have family members who you need to help get ready and get out of the door, you’ll know exactly what I mean. The good news is, is that you change that. No matter how busy you are first thing, you can shape it to be how you want it to be.
In my previous posts, I shared with you how crucial the first few hours of the day are to any productive day. Nobody wants to feel like they’re rushing all day, and that they started the day behind.
Starting a day like that will mean that you’ll feel like that all day. It’s so much better for you and your achievements to start off feeling cool, calm and collected, knowing that you’re running the day, and it’s not running you. Being able to seize the day and make the best of it is down to two major ingredients.
The challenge is, how to find the time for your ideal routine to be slotted into your day without causing any more stress to an already busy morning.
Get Up Early Enough
Of course, it’s very tempting to push that snooze button in the morning. It’s even challenging to set the alarm early enough to do all that want to do. Even moving it 30 minutes earlier is very tough, in particular, if you’re just not a morning person. Trust me. After a few mornings, it won’t seem as difficult as you think and you’ll soon be used to it.
The key to having an enjoyable and less hectic morning is getting up early and not having any contact with the snooze button. Once you start the day late, it’s going to carry through y our entire day and you won’t be as productive as you could be. Your side-business won’t get a push, you will feel rushed and harassed.
If anything goes wrong, such as not being able to find the car keys, then that’s going to turn into a major crisis rapidly. You’ll be late for work, the children will be late for school and you’re going to be setting the tone of your day in a not so positive or productive way. If you start the day chasing time, that’s going to be how the rest of the day will go for you.
By getting up early, you’re already putting yourself ahead of the game. You’ve taken the day and you’re running with it. The day isn’t running with you. You have time to take care of what you need to, in a calm way and without feeling harried. In short, by getting up early, you’ve set yourself up for an outstanding day of productivity.
Restructure Your Routine
Before we determine the best routine, have a think about what your current routine is. How are you spending your time? Look for opportunities to make a change and make adjustments so that you have time for the things that you really want to do. For example, if you want 20 minutes to do yoga, what could you organise ahead of time, remove or even delegate to somebody else to do.
If you spend the majority of your time getting breakfast ready for people, then set the table the night before. Ask your partner if they will make the coffee. The children could also learn how to make their own breakfast and put their dishes into the dishwasher once they’ve rinsed them.
Set out all the clothes you’ll need for the next day, the night before. This includes everything you need such as work bag, car keys, handbag etc so that you know exactly where they are in the morning. Small changes like this will make a big difference to your daily routine. Just a few tweaks can save you up to 30 minutes in the morning!
