Social media storytelling is a powerful way to keep your followers engaged and your brand alive. With some pre-planning, you can use it to get across your business message to your prospects and clients.
If there’s one thing that is a timeless love of humans, it’s story telling. It’s a way of communicating that has been carried through to these times because people love a good story. Even when there wasn’t a way to write them down, stories were still told through generations.
Stories are what bind us together as people and humans. The other animals on this planet aren’t capable of retelling stories.
Stories are so important to humans, that you as a business person won’t regret investing time into telling your story and what better platform to share it on than social media.
- Be Human
People connect better to people than they do businesses or brands. If you can make your story more about people than that is going to help your clients connect to you. Even if your product is a chair, then you should be able to tell a story about how that chair came to life from a human perspective.
- Write Your Story
Before you get going, write out the entire story of your business including why and how it happened. Try to fit this story into just two or three pages so that you can add all the details to it. You might want to use Powerpoint or another presentation software to help you break the story into sections, from the beginning to the end. Now add the future.
- Break It Down
Now that you’ve got clarity on your story and have documented it, you can break it into smaller pieces. As you break it down, add anything to it that comes to mind so that you have everything that needs to be included.
- Use Compelling Imagery
Now it’s time to add the images that will bring your business to life. Add images for the products and the services. Preferably you’ll have your own images, or if not, then a wonderful selection of stock photos that help to communicate the feelings and thoughts that you want to get across to the audience.

- Keep It Going
Each day you can add more to the story to make it more human and to fill it out. If a customer writes to you, and it’s beautiful, then add that to the story. If you find a way for the story to stand out more, then keep adding. The business doesn’t end, and therefore, the story doesn’t either.
- Put Your Story into Many Formats
Once you have documented your story, you can now start adding it to different formats. Create video, photos, blog posts, infographics, memes and more, each one telling your story. Portions of your story should be on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and other social networks in addition to your website.
- Share Your Story
Now it’s time to share your story. Ensure you have the share buttons installed on your blog site and ask your readers to share it too. The more you share it, the more it is going to become a part of your brand and what people know about your business.
- Ask for Your Customers’ Stories
To keep your story alive, ask your customers for help in sharing your brand story. Ask them what it feels like to use your products, or if your services helped them to solve their problems. Now ask them to share with their friends and family as you capture it and make it part of your story.
It’s essential that you tell your story and what better way than through social media storytelling. By doing so, you’ll know where you’ve come from and where you’re going. It will also get the attention of your ideal audience, boost your visibility and your business in the process.
